With Massage Therapy being such a lone wolf industry, massage therapists hardly ever get out and mingle with one another. The only time we congregate in groups is every two years for our biannual license renewal classes.
Every day therapists get up and spend most of their working hours alone in a dark room. Obviously working on clients, but alone in the sense that they are not immersing themselves in the industry. Not exchanging ideas, referrals, new treatment breakthroughs, or laws passed.
This behavior has to end. Some therapists have an I, me, my mindset and that's fine, you can get far on your own but you can go much farther with a network. Instead of turning away clients who request services you are not trained for, you should be able to refer them to a colleague who specializes in that area.
Instead of turning away clients interested in booking couples massages, you should have a list of therapists you can call to be able to partner with. Learn to work together, get to know one another and strengthen the industry. We can all be successful and thrive together.
